What Akika does
Akika uses the official QuickBooks Online APIs to take encrypted, point-in-time backups on the cadence defined in your Subscription Plan (for example, daily, multiple times per day, plus on-demand snapshots). Each snapshot is isolated to your company and stored in Akika's secure cloud.
What we capture
- Company and configuration: company profile, preferences, chart of accounts, tax codes, payment methods, terms, classes, locations/departments, and custom fields exposed by the API.
- Customers, vendors, and products/services: customer and vendor records, items/products and services, price lists, and related contact details.
- Sales and receivables: invoices, sales receipts, estimates, credit memos, delayed charges, time activity, and customer payments.
- Payables and purchasing: bills, bill payments, vendor credits, purchase orders, checks, and expenses.
- Accounting: journal entries, transfers, deposits, and bank-related transactions available via the API.
- Attachments: metadata for attachments, and file bodies where the QuickBooks API provides download access at backup time.
What is limited or not captured
- Payroll, time tracking add-ons, and certain advanced or third-party app data are outside the QuickBooks API scope and may not be backed up.
- Merchant center settings, bank feed connections, and reports are not included unless the API provides those details.
- Attachments that QuickBooks restricts or that are unavailable at backup time will show metadata without the file body.
How restores work
- Record-level restore: Recreate or update supported records back into your QuickBooks company using the official APIs, respecting current QuickBooks permissions and limits.
- Exports: Download snapshots (CSV/JSON) for reconciliation, audits, or offline review.
- Point-in-time snapshots: Browse backups by date/time to verify data before restoring.
Restores require an active QuickBooks connection. Akika will not overwrite records without your approval and will surface conflicts where QuickBooks rejects a change.
Cadence and retention
Backup frequency and retention follow your Subscription Plan and the Data Retention Schedule provided in the app or by support. Timezone alignment is shown in-app so you know when snapshots occur.
Security and data handling
- OAuth-based QuickBooks connection with least-privilege scopes; tokens are rotated and encrypted.
- Data encrypted in transit and at rest; per-company logical isolation with audited access.
- Operational logging on backup and restore activity for traceability.
See our Security page for more detail.
